Meet Paul McKenzie (Macca), who was awarded the inaugural Champion Award in 2019 – for his outstanding contribution to the community advocating for the rights and well-being of people with disability, most notably his work on the Pupil’s Industry Pathway project, significantly changing students feelings about disability with his inspirational story-telling and his voluntary roles chairing an NT Peer Supporters Group, championing improved access and inclusion at festivals and events, and providing advocacy and advice on the NDIS to the community.
Macca said “Collecting the Champion award in 2019 was such a thrill, it was nice to be recognised. People who work in the sector are doing a great job, but there is still so much more to do. Employ people with disability, you won’t be sorry!”
